Admit (hospital admission): meaning in health insurance
แอดมิท
“Admit” (แอดมิท) means being formally admitted to hospital as an in-patient, which is what triggers in-patient (IPD) insurance cover.
What “admit” means
In Thailand, “admit” (แอดมิท) is the everyday word for being hospitalised: the doctor decides that you need to stay in hospital for treatment or observation, and you are registered as an in-patient. Your insurance then pays under its in-patient (IPD) benefits.
Admission and insurance cover
- The admission must be medically necessary: a stay for convenience or check-up only is generally not covered
- Most policies define an in-patient as someone admitted for at least six consecutive hours
- In a network hospital, ask for cashless admission (direct billing): the hospital requests a guarantee of payment from the insurer
- Outside the network, keep the itemised bill, receipts and medical certificate to claim reimbursement
Day surgery
Some procedures are done without an overnight stay (day surgery or day case). Many policies cover them under IPD benefits even without a full admission; check the policy wording.
General definition: the exact rules are those of your policy wording.
