Pre-existing condition: meaning in health insurance
โรคที่เป็นมาก่อนทำประกัน
A pre-existing condition is an illness or injury you had, or had symptoms of, before the policy started; it is usually excluded or covered only under conditions.
Definition
A pre-existing condition is a health problem that existed before the start of your policy: diagnosed, treated, or with symptoms a reasonable person would have consulted for. Insurers assess it from your health declaration.
How insurers treat it
- Excluded permanently, by a specific exclusion written in your policy
- Covered after a waiting period (for example after one or two years without symptoms)
- Accepted with a higher premium (loading)
- Application declined, for serious conditions
Always declare
Hiding a condition can lead the insurer to refuse a claim or cancel the policy, even for an unrelated problem. When in doubt, declare it and let the insurer decide.
General definition: the exact rules are those of your policy wording.
